Leaving with “unfinished business”

You may have had expectations for your career that weren’t realized. You may have hoped for a promotion or a specific posting, or deployment that didn’t come through. You may feel that your contributions weren’t recognized and that others you saw as less deserving achieved more. You may be grieving the losses that “could” or “should” have been.

This can be difficult to accept, particularly when there is no opportunity to change the outcome. Now that your service career is over, this means making peace with what was and considering what new achievable goals you can set for yourself.
