Daphne L. McFee, Sergeant (Ret’d)

Daphne L. McFee, Sergeant (Ret’d)
Daphne L. McFee joined the RCMP in 1986 and received a medical discharge almost 30 years later, retiring in 2015. Daphne was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome after contracting the shingles virus, and this illness led to her discharge. When Daphne looked for information to help her children cope with the post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) of her husband, RCMP Corporal (Ret’d) Paul Woods, she was not able to find much, and she decided to write a children’s book that would help kids and families understand what PTSD is: It’s Not ’Cuz of Me. McFee says, “So often children are left upset, with a lack of understanding and wondering what is going on. This story is for those children who have PTSD in their family, giving voice to their experiences, emotions and worries … it’s really important that everyone understands that it’s not anyone’s fault, especially children.”
