When more help is needed and where to find it

Sometimes, the deeply wounded and traumatized can be a risk to themselves and others. Trauma can impact the nervous system in ways that impact daily life. It can scramble communication and understanding. Innocent comments, sudden movement, a noise, a flash of light can trigger memories and be misconstrued as attack. In extreme circumstances, this can lead to things like road rage, altercations in the shopping mall, and even domestic violence.

If trauma responses are significantly interfering with life and family, seek professional support from a therapist or counsellor who is trained in addressing psychological trauma. Hoping that things will get better without seeking this support may extend your distress.
